Takatsukasa Masahiro (鷹司政煕)
Masahiro TAKATSUKASA (May 14, 1761 - March 29, 1841) was a member of court nobles during the mid Edo period. He was Toshi choja (head of the Fujiwara clan). He was Kanpaku (chief adviser to the Emperor), ranked at Juichii (Junior First Rank).
Family Record
His father was Sukehira TAKATSUKASA, who was the 4th son of Imperial Prince Kaninnomiya Naohito, and was later adopted by Mototeru TAKATSUKASA and took over the Takatsukasa family of Fujiwara cognomen.
His mother Fumiko (Iho no tsubone), was the daughter of Shigetaka MORI, the lord of the Choshu domain.
Sanemi Tokudaiji was his brother, and Masako (the wife of Imperial Prince Fushiminomiya Kuniyori), Tomiko (the wife of Imperial Prince Arisugawanomiya Orihito) and Oki hime (the wife of Narimura DATE, who was the 8th lord of the Sendai domain) were his sisters.
His lawful wife was Noriko HACHISUKA, who was a daughter of Shigeyoshi HACHISUKA, the 10th lord of the Tokushima domain. Haishi TOYOOKA and Ume INOUE were his concubines. Emperor Higashiyama was his great-grandfather.
Brief Personal History
In 1768, he was admitted to the court. In 1770, he became Gon Dainagon (provisional major counselor), ranked at Shosanmi (Senior Third Rank). In 1791, he became Sadaijin (Minister of the left). In 1795, he became Uji no choja (the head of the clan), and also became Kanpaku (chief adviser to the Emperor). In 1796, he was ranked at Juichii (Junior First Rank). In 1800, he was ranked Jusangu (honorary rank next to the three Empresses: Great Empress Dowager, Empress Dowager, and Empress). In 1814, he left the post of Kanpaku. In 1823, he entered into priesthood (his homyo, a name given to a person who enters the Buddhist priesthood, was Rakusan).
